If you wish to point a domain address that you have to another domain name or subdomain, one way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being pointed loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's forwarded to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be forwarded to the website that you've set up, but it'll also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the traffic from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that such a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Website Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our Linux website hosting packages is very easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in just a few simple steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you many opportunities - if you create a company website on our end, as an illustration, the workers can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to set up a website by using a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you'll be able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and point it to the main domain address, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it takes only a couple of clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will see a section committed to the DNS records of the domains and subdomains hosted within the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to select the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), key in where the latter will be redirected to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within a few hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record inside the account is equally simple and easy and takes a click. If you experience any difficulties, you can go through our detailed help article, see the short video on the topic that we have added in the Control Panel, or you can simply contact us for assistance.
